Kenneth E. Hankins, Marketing and Distribution Advisor
Kenneth began his business career and spent 21 years at The Clorox Company, a manufacturer and marketer of consumer cleaning products. His progression through the organization included: management of their largest manufacturing/distribution facility; management of new product testing, expansion planning, and implementation of the manufacturing plans; and manager of all manufacturing and distribution facilities for the eastern half of the United States.
He joined St. Ives Laboratories, Inc, a personal care products business in 1994. He developed and implemented a manufacturing and distribution strategy for a $22 million expansion of the business east of the Rocky Mountains. He left the company after it was acquired by Alberto Culver in late 1996. He immediately joined the Newell Company, now known as Newell Rubbermaid, a diverse consumer products business.
He was responsible for corporate functions servicing the 18 operating companies of Newell. The services included: in-house and contract trucking, freight payment and a Far East sourcing service with offices in Taiwan, China, and Thailand. He relocated to Belgium in 1999 where he had supply-chain and information systems responsibility as a member of a three-person team tasked with building a window-fashions and drapery hardware business for Newell in Western Europe. The business was built through acquisitions and internal product development to $329 million in sales within three years.
He is currently a director of Dynamic Literacy, LLC and vice chairman of the executive committee and board of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville. Ken holds a BS in engineering from the University of South Florida and has completed the advanced management program at Emory University.
